The anger, fear, MAGA propaganda schtick is wearing thin. Harris Walz bring accomplishments that benefit all of us & Team Blue JOY!
Trump & his team unlawfully desecrate Arlington National Cemetery for a propaganda stunt & MSM reports an “incident” & a cemetery official’s “mental health episode”?
MSM also fails to point out that fail to point out that the Trump administration finalized the agreement with the Taliban for full withdrawal (effective surrender) in 2021 under the Doha Accords in February 2020 which required completion of withdrawal/surrender after Biden was in office.
Where “journalism” fails, Team Blue needs to respond & remind voters that Trump’s unilateral surrender to the Taliban in the Doha Agreement led to the “disaster” on Biden’s watch.
It's the stark contrast. People are tired of Trump's nonsense. Kamala has given people an alternative to hate and division. The same factor will play down ballot. I predict many pleasant surprises on Nov. 5.😃😃🇺🇸
I agree. Cruz, Hawley, Scott are all vulnerable, as are many Republican House representatives. Blue Wave with joy in our hearts and hope for our country’s future.
I was a staunch Joe Biden supporter and was upset at the pressure for him to drop his candidacy. But when he did, and I listened to Kamala Harris, I realized that she was bringing the country something nobody else could in the same way: joy and hope. And I realized that I was very hungry for something positive in our politics, and the direction our country has taken. If I was that hungry for positivity, certainly the rest of the country was, too. And we can see it in the way people have responded to such a great candidate. Kamala Harris is able to show the world exactly how small trump really is, just by being herself. I, for one, am grateful to see hope and joy in politics. We've never needed it more.
It was uplifting to watch the Democratic National Convention. The joy was infectious. The sight of a convention hall filled with people of every shade of the rainbow heartwarming. Doug Emhoff and Tim Walz presented examples of strong masculinity that demonstrated kindness, caring and respect unlike the Republican crass and cruel variety. Theirs was a vision of inclusion and unlimited possibility. For the first time in a long time, I felt proud to be an American, that we could live up to our ideals, that hope, and pride in our country were cool again. It was a party and from my television screen, my cat and I celebrated America's rebirth.
Given the gravity of our situation as a country, I must say this was one of your MOST necessary pieces. Further, I am proud to know again you show yourself a patriot by going to the battleground states to share your message. Godspeed!
Back in the 80s I briefly worked with a man who was a refugee from Chile, and he had described to me his experience of being imprisoned by Pinochet's government for not asking permission to butcher a cow to feed the people of his village. I remember how he warned me then, telling me that even in our great country of America there was nothing preventing a madman from someday taking over and destroying our country.
Now we have Trump who is trying to do exactly that. When he was elected in 2016 I was scared. I'm still scared but I'm also very hopeful because this miraculous joy has blossomed. For years I have felt like a deadly cancer has been growing in America in the form of a personality cult surrounding Donald Trump. But this miraculous joy seems to be weakening him and exposing him for the small and insecure old man he is. And I think the sense of joy that has been in the air lately is contagious. The energy to defeat the authoritarian candidate is growing every day.
The other side is offering the worst aspects of the human psyche; all vices and not a virtue in sight. But that is what I would expect when sociopaths/psychopaths attain power positions.
To help us enjoy the 10 SEP debate I’m starting a project: collecting talking points for VPOTUS with the hope that we can get them to her and that one or two become sound bites for TikTok, X, etc. I will start with one of my favorites. Please reply with yours and I’ll put them together and keep feeding them to Comments to collect more. Here’s my favorite:
Donald, do you know how we know you’re lying? Your lips are moving!
Thank you Ruth for the global success perspective. I am finding in 'walking the streets to engage people directly' many/ all people (who don't know each other), from different European countries (Italy, Poland, Belarus, Romania) instinctively are afraid the Democrats are socialists = communists. They reactively move to Trump in sheer fear of communism.
We really need to promote strong civics education that differentiates the governance models - perhaps visually and other models, song and stories -- especially as the U.S. achieves more diversity.
I have heard the same sentiment from some Cubans and Venezuelans. It surprised me. I expected they would recognize the same authoritarian tendencies in Trump as in their leaders and recoil. Some first generation Latinos are so cynical about politicians, because so many politicians from their home countries are corrupt, they fail to distinguish between the Democrats and the Republicans.
Yes, it surprised me too. Yet time and time again, I find this. Like you, I'm sure have found these are good, rationale citizens who love America. That tells me that even if we survive in November -- which I believe we will - there is alot of work and educating yet to do?
So based on our exchange here, these fears are present in first generation Latinos and Europeans. Very family-focused, they pass this misconception onto Gen Z, etc. ....
In August 2016, Fox News Channel began to quietly phase out the "Fair and Balanced" slogan in favor of "Most Watched, Most Trusted"; when these changes were reported in June 2017 by Gabriel Sherman (a writer who had written a biography on Ailes), a network executive said the change "has nothing to do with programming" ...
Maybe immigration needs to improve their civics education of new immigrants? When raised in authoritarian homes, that bullying and lying can be what’s most secure feeling.
Fascism has long sold itself by using the fear of communism. tRump has done this quite a bit even though there is near zero followers of this concept in the US. My neighbors are from Latvia and back tRump for the reasons you describe. I was shocked.
I have been in discussion of late with people about how Mormons are some of the prominent Republicans coming to support the Harris-Walz campaign and before that they were supporting Biden. It has to do with character, and Biden following the rules, and working both sides of the aisle, sets the stage for Harris to follow in those footsteps, with her brilliant selection of VP in Tim Walz. People see character and law and order in Kamala and Biden which they do not see in Trump, the convicted felon. There are many out there who will be moved by this movement of Republicans supporting Trump. All of them are adults who understand the need to support ideals over policy. I am grateful for them. It is brave for them to live up to their values. https://idahocapitalsun.com/2024/08/07/latter-day-saints-democrats-and-republicans-join-forces-to-support-harris/
In one tv interview the people interviewed said that John Giles is a leader of Republicans for Kamala in the Harris-Walz campaign.
Another thing about joy is that it's contagious. Gloom tends to isolate us in our hidey-holes, where the chance of hope breaking through becomes less and less. The joy at the Democratic convention was so powerful that I felt it at home a long way from Chicago. It was the joy and determination of the worldwide Women's March the day after Trump was inaugurated that assured me that yes, we were going to survive this, even if I didn't know exactly how. The images and memories from that day continue to inspire me.

I think we can say that autocracies are killjoys. And as a sidenote, I challenge anyone to find a video clip of Trump laughing.
It doesn't exist. All he's got is an evil smirk.
Killers as well as buzzkillers.

Ruth, I don't think the registration link is working...

Thank you x1000 Ruth!
I wish she’d also go to Georgia like VP Harris & Gov. Walz are doing this week.
Why not submit this to NYT as a rebuttal to Patrick Healy?

To Joy and Hope, which I agree with Ruth are so powerful, versus what the other side is offering, I would add LOVE & EMPATHY
The other side is offering the worst aspects of the human psyche; all vices and not a virtue in sight. But that is what I would expect when sociopaths/psychopaths attain power positions.
This presidential campaign is one of Joy v Evil! Now is the time to fan the flames of Joy !
Every time Republicans speak, it conjures up episodes of SNL's Debbie Downer....

What happened to Fair and Balanced?
