I recall renowned young Swedish enviromental leader, Greta Thunberg, admonishing humanity to act as if their house was on fire, because it is. Self gratification in the midst of existential crises—climatic, political, et. al.,—is contraindicated. We need to find satisfaction in doubling down in the midst of the crises for the collective good, as well as our own; in ways we do not increase our carbon footprint; aggravating the climate crisis. There is so much that we can do. Action is the antidote for despair.

Since we’re in the midst of an emergency, our common home is burning, the appropriate reaction is to do what’s necessary to put out the proverbial fire and ask others to help. We don’t leave our home and seek to escape from reality. The fact is, to escape for self gratification while the ‘house’ burns is a form of dereliction of duty to ourselves and our community.
BTW, tourism is one of many ways we modern peripatetic humans plunder the Earth with impunity while remaining in denial. In this the six mass extinction in the Anthropocene Era we can no longer afford such denial; the flames from our common home threatens life itself—hence, posing an existential crisis.

Two issues, out of many, undermining democratic efforts to prevail during the 2024 elections, that we can address from the comfort of our home w/o increasing our carbon footprint:
•Call for an immediate, unconditional and permanent cease-fire in the genocidal attack on Occupied Palestine and elsewhere by Apartheid Israel. Demand an end to all non humanitarian aid to Israel and support a one-state solution w/equal rights for all, with reparations and restoration of damage done by the illegal and disproportionate genocidal war, including weaponized starvation. U.S. support for fascist Zionism, represented by PM Netanyahu and his cabal, has alienated the Democratic base to the extent that many now see Biden as a war criminal (as I do) for whom they cannot vote for. (Will vote Democratic, regardless; but too many can’t or don’t want to.)
• It should be obvious, unless we’ve not been paying attention, that Biden is no longer fit to serve as president or run for president. As I’ve said long ago, to no avail—enduring accusations that failing to support Biden was to align myself w/Trump (or was it Putin?)—we should individually and collectively call for Biden’s immediate resignation, in spite of protestations by the Cult of Biden. He should promptly pass the baton onto VP Harris; time is of the essence.
It appears the this “movement” is no longer utilizing the “Lions not Lambs” narrative as they have exemplified wearing identical hats, waving identical flags, and now bandages on ears, which is a total over dramatic reaction to an ear wound. This non political cult is based on idolatry and submission.
So, I am an US born,now resident in Uk, Citizen. I did a little poll at the Sunday Market in the town I live in on the Coast of Wales. Lots of folks from the midlands come to Sea frolic in Barmouth. Everyone… )(when I told them I was returning to the US in Sept/Oct). To save democracy..I… mean…. everyone said- Oh don’t bother, Biden is feeble, all the democrats say Trump will win. 200 British people all with the same sad story. My god, Maga and the media have really done a number on people’s minds. They knew nothing about plan 2025, very little about his legal stuff and seemed to think it was a done deal because the orange thing is so ‘strong’ Gag! Most of them read the Sun… the Guardian is a little more balanced but really there was no clue what is really going on with the threat to Democracy in the US…Zip. The Biden-feeble thing seems to overshadow every sensible thought or feeling in folks minds. So, I will return and give, and volunteer and see what can be done to win. I really believe that that there are lots of people that when it comes down to the wire will reject Trumps debacle of a person and party… time to get the word out and vote Blue no matter what comes. 😻🩵🩵 Childless cat lady- and I vote.
I agree...Trump and the echo chamber of the media have really "done a number on people's minds." That raises questions regarding how the rest of us can respond to the contagion of these attitudes and beliefs. ???

It's all a conscious and unconscious manipulation to get other people to see the world in a way that centers their attention on the authoritarian. People like Trump have a desperate need to be seen, to be the center of attention at all times. In every moment of their life they are trying to get the feeling that they are centrally important.
Trump also adopts the language of the left in a conscious attempt to gaslight his opponents and followers. The other day he said something like, "I took a bullet for democracy." I burst out laughing when I heard that one! 🤣 But that's how he casts himself as the innocent child-victim deserving of compassion, the way he felt when he actually was an emotionally abused child.
We are in a psywar. The media seems to roll for this, and even promotes this, while not platforming and mainstreaming analyses such as yours. Aaron Sorkin gets an op-ed suggesting Mitt Romney should be the nominee - puh-leez. And thanks to your readers who have also liked my writing. We HAVE TO UNITE AGAINST MAGA AND PROJECT 2025! We have to embrace whomever is the candidate for President! And, one day after we squash MAGA and Trump, we have to unite against money and Citizen's United. Here we are. The donor's spoke and our representatives listened to them!
Lucid - I am the spouse of Bonnie and I know this is off topic but I wonder if it is beyond Trump's Camp to set up their own assassination attempt? Given the specifics of this event, especially questions with the Secret Service, Trump being on stage, and Trump showing his face so soon, not once but twice, I cannot help but wonder if this was all a set up? That also made me think about the debate and all the Trump Camp hype about President Biden being on drugs if he did well, as expected. Because he performed so incredibly poorly, am I going too far to wonder if it is possible that somehow his food or drink had been drugged prior to the debate? I know this is far-fetched thinking, but isn't that what Trump, Putin and Authoritarianism is all about?
