One thing I wish we would reconsider in the US is our frequent use of gun-related vocabulary. Think how often we hear the term "silver bullet" or "magic bullet" used as a metaphor for a solution. Someone lively is a "real pistol." Bring out the "big guns" to tackle a problem. I shudder to think what our international visitors/non-native English-speaking residents of the US think of these.
Citizens are indebted to people like Shannon Watts who take it upon themselves to champion a serious social issue and to work on it for the long term. Not only are they making an effort to reduce needless suffering and economic waste, they also keep alive the ideas of moral responsibility to one's community, a moral concern for others whom one may not know, and serious volunteerism as well.
Our lives would be greatly impoverished without such persons as Ms. Watts in it. I was pleased to see her good work highlighted here.
