I saw the fountain pic on Twitter a short while ago. Enjoy. You deserve this time away. I also saw a story about the problem with wild boars running on busy freeways in Rome. Having been there, who'd a thunk?
I do enjoy Lucid. I will miss your precision focus interviews with diverse personalities/experts on fascist strategies integrating into our culture creating a class war. Fortunate for me I remain an avid follower of historians, journalists, authors and experts willing to take on the truth of todays rising autocracy and arm us in knowledge in this war.
Ruth: Enjoy your stay! I’ve signed up for the forum regarding Pope Pius XII and Fascism at which you are speaking along with the author. As far as touchstones in cities that I often return to: I enjoy Boston for its own historic places. I too, Will read
about Matteoti as well. You too, provide historical touchstones as well! Thank you!
G d bless Ruth, thank you for all if your insightful historic perspectives. I did not know about the person you mentioned who fought fascism and played tribute to. I will be looking him up to read more about his heroism. Enjoy your travels
You look very stylish, Ruth. Sunglasses to keep you looking clandestine! Very Italiana!!! I support the format changes to Lucid you've proposed. The interviewees you've had have been excellent but your comments and insights seem to reach me at multiple levels - so I am going to enjoy seeing / hearing more of you.
Ruth you look just great in the photo--sunglasses and all! Thanks for reminding us of the courage of Giacomo Matteotti who fought to expose fascist corruption. His example makes me ask who are our modern day Giacomo Matteottis? There are at least two that jump out right away to me; Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. There are others but sadly, most of the rest of the Republican party in a Faustian bargain have sold their souls to the devil.
Thank you so much for keeping up the fight against right wing fascism. If you can provide any suggestions to counter the left use of "socialism" and "communism" as a derisive descriptor of the Democratic left, I would appreciate it. Those terms are so loaded that I would like to see better descriptors, or any bullet points to counter - like Bernie Sanders has said, ideas that were termed radical right wing have become more mainstream.
Thank you for the year of enlightening interviews … so many of your guests have become touchstones of information and inspiration (like the brilliant journalists producing Gaslit Nation and Kremlin File). And really do appreciate your weekly referrals to past articles during the LUCID zoom gatherings… such a valuable archive!!
I find it so touching that you honor Matteotti on your trips to Rome. It is imperative that we remember the people who came before us and are examples to fight the good fight.
Thank you for your work, for sharing your time in Rome with us and linking the city with it's past. Also, your photo across the Tiber of the Castle recalls a walk my wife and I took along the embankment right there.
Thank you for sharing your photos. They are the closest I will ever get to seeing Rome.
I will continue to find your work informative and important but I will miss the interviews.
Safe travels.
