Absolutely, and I believe that the joy and fun that's happening now with the Harris/Walz campaign is in keeping in step with this need.

Exactly. Hope is the most powerful thing. It's been spreading like wildfire. Kamala Harris is leading in the polls by 8 points already. Trump is drowning in his own bile.

It seems that the Harris-Walz ticket, while working furiously of course, has used a kind of playfulness in their approach to this very serious election. Their tone deflates the creepy ones who want to keep things dark.

Your piece here about play comes at a good time. Thank you!

I’m engaged in the happy creative zone of writing postcards— the news is there. Or music or a conversation. It’s hopeful and meaningful to write a postcards to strangers for our democracy and to connect. I’m hoping they catch my feelings!!

I’ve learned a lot from children over the years! They seem to “cut to the chase” quickly! 😁

The mind of children are not in tune with adult stupidity or just do not care to listen to what they think are “stupid thoughts”! This little child is amazing! If we listen we can all learn about their desires for PEACY AND TRANQUILITY!!!

I find that on Saturdays, Jay Kuo with his Xeets and Giggles Edition of his Substack is very playful. It finds the humor in what is going on, which is collective acts of resistance and he usually ends with cute and funny animal videos and a dad joke. https://open.substack.com/pub/statuskuo/p/just-for-xeets-and-giggles-081024?r=f0qfn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

I was laughing out loud. To me good play includes laughter. One of the best parts of our family holidays is that we play games, and we have our own family version of playing Scattergories that is very fun for us, and we might play until late in the night, and causes lots of laughter and conversation.

Play makes a space for equanimity.

I think play is what keeps us young. The way my husband and I play is with word play with each other. We get silly, we laugh. It's just little moments scattered through the day, but enough to keep us sane. Of course authoritarians don't want us to play. They don't want us to be strong and independent, which is what play does for us. I'm glad that the democratic campaign is bringing us joy and laughter while still being completely serious. As a country we need lightheartedness - a big dose of it.

A refreshing message we all need to hear .. thank you .. what I love most about your message is we need to stay calm and have a clear mind to cope with and solve some of this issues …

Spot on. And, as a previous commenter noted, the Olympics have indeed been a relief from incessant repetition of the news.

As always, the kids have something to teach us. We all need to budget time for fun.
