As well as 'shining a light' we need to be active on many levels, esp. the ground--e.g. in cities. And we need to work with organization helping refugees and migrants.
Seasons greetings and Happy New Year to all of my fellow Lucidite friends!
In Poland, the Civic Coalition, led by former Prime Minster and European Council President Donald Tusk, won. Interestingly, compassion, solidarity, and love were successful campaign themes that not only worked but turned back the growing rise of Polish authoritarianism.
Would and could those themes be used in Biden's campaign against Trump in 2024? Could they appeal broadly enough to enough voters in swing states to be able to win the electoral college? Am I being naive or was Tusk on to something? Or maybe I'm like the priest in the 1953 film " The War of the Worlds" who got obliterated when he held up the bible to the on coming Martian spacecraft? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqEtnF57Glk
Thank you for this thoughtful, nuanced and caring essay. I am not swift enough with chat and want to follow up on Friday's meeting with Heather. The discussion about land brought to mind Dr. Vandana Shiva's inspiring keynote address at Planet Justice this past spring. The four hour Study Hall began with a land acknowledgement and Dr. Shiva's talk begins at 25 minutes. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_kBwMdNxxA
Thank you Dr Ben-Ghiat for this profound reminder that the masses of refugees are millions of individuals who deserve the same basic rights and have the same basic needs as everyone else. Their individuality is crucial to remember. I loved your beginning to remind us of the sacredness of all beings and the ending that focused on love and compassion for all. Merry Christmas!
Thank you for this beautiful Christmas message, Ruth!
Amen👏

Yes, indeed! We must bond together to reap the much desired objective - save democracy!
Thank you for this beautiful reminder!
Thank you for everything. Merry Christmas to you, Ruth, and everybody in the Lucid community.

We need to sell the virtues of democracy more!
Yes, Biden does say fairly often, democracy works better to meet the needs of society than does autocracy.
Agree!
Thank you for reminding us of the shared humanity that the autocrats want so desperately to trick us into forgetting.
Thank you, Ruth, for your commitment to fighting the world wide war against humanity.
Thank you Ruth!
A perfect piece for today.
The peace and joy of this day be with us all!
Thank you so much. This is elegant and true.

Thankful we know where Navalny is; hoping he is ok. Awaiting word from his lawyers.
Great sermon, Ruth, in the best possible sense.
