Thank you, Ruth for this interview Ms Kayyam. The possibility of the convoy chuds repeating Ottawa here in DC is the most g*d d*mn effing slowball over out national security home plate imaginable. If even the slightest disruption is allowed, it will be a disgrace of legitimate authority imaginable. One might then be tempted to say, if they can't do their jobs better than that 'defund the NSA'

With her clear command of the issues and decisiveness on what to do about them I wish Juliette Kayyem was our Attorney General or head of the FBI.

Thank you for this interview. I have long appreciated your voice and expertise on these matters. I have additionally been a fan of Juliette Kayyem. Furthermore, I always feel particularly fortunate when I happen to see her commentary on television. The suggestions, as put forth, for dealing with the convoy issue sound solid and necessary. Weak or middling measures will accomplish nothing and lead to a long, drawn out and disruptive, chaotic mess. No one wants to deal with that. I don't want to see video of these troublemakers filling the airwaves for days on end. I think about some truly horrific situation, such as an ambulance or any individual trying to make it to hospital and being blocked. We have every thing we need to prevent it from getting to that point.

The Canadians waited too long; I hope we don't.

It took so long in Canada not because we thought it was a legitimate protest at first, most of knew it was a sham. The response was delayed because most of the Provincial leaders and the three of the Federal parties supported it. It was quickly ended when the Federal Government entered the picture. But you are right it never should have gone on as long as it did. Such a fiasco.

"I'm wondering how you see the GOP's trajectory...? "

Trump has normalized blame, scapegoating, political bigotry, anger, violence, societal division, vengeance and his brand of lunacy. Trump's followers are emulating his sociopathic behavior because he is their savior. They want to be just like their hero. Whether we call Trump a sociopath, a megalomaniac or both, he is a powerful role model, and as such is dangerous to emulate. A Penn state representative built a shrine to Trump. It is a statement as to the power Trump has on peoples' minds. This love affair with a leader was also seen in fascism. The GOP trajectory seems to be a continued belief in Trump's authoritarianism. Severe legal action needs to be taken to cut the head off of the snake.

A few corrections of some of JK’s misunderstanding of the American trucking industry .. which thankfully doesn’t affect her speculations … and suggests a slimmer likelihood for an American insurgent convoy. Yes, most drivers don’t own the trucks they drive: 90% of drivers, like me the last 22 years, are employees of the company which owns the truck - unless we want to risk getting arrested for stealing the owner’s truck, there is NO chance we can detour from the route we are ordered to drive, to join a “convoy”. The other 10% are “owner operators” … but they “own” their truck the same way you “own” your house … as long as your make your huge monthly payment (as large as a mortgage), you “own” it … the vast majority of “owner ops” must drive most every day to make that payment or they lose the truck (and all those previous payments) in a month or two … so they aren’t free (except by rare chance, if they are hauling on the convoy route) to join a convoy… so there are a few thousand trucks out of the more than 3million that daily deliver our stuff in this country, who might be able to physically join a convoy, and spend several $thousands on fuel, to cosplay insurgency in their big rigs. And to effectively prevent those few thousand …. DOT just needs to warn them: you disrupt our interstates … we take away your authority to operate your commercial vehicle in the US. DONE!!!

The irony of the current Convoy cause and vision, ie. to use the interstate highway system to generate chaos, even insurrection across the U.S. when, as conceived by Eisenhower during the Cold War during the 1950's it was designed primarily as a defensive military infrastructure system, as well as one to facilitate interstate commerce!

I've actually wondered at my own authoritarian bent per the J6 crowd and the vigilante movements here.

I'm happy to see someone who actually knows something support a strong position per the Rule of Law and would be terrorists.

Really good, thanks. Yes, we do need to get tougher with those who disrupt normal social function, Canada waited too long. A CDL is a gold card, authorities have options. We have a right to protest, not to endanger. Blocking an ambulance or vital needs is an endangerment. I understand decapitation, that said, Truth Social did launch, being steered by an ex member of Congress. Treasonous behavior must be scrutinized and have consequences, for all involved. We do not need “party members” reporting on our neighbors. We do not however, have the right to incite. Many voices, over public airwaves are, in my opinion, inciting. We are not my beloved neighbor, Canada. We must act swiftly and decisively.

Put Juliette Kayyem in charge of DC. security when the Fox News, Tucker Carlson and Rand Paul brigade of egged on truckers comes to town. We need her thinking..

The slowness of the Canadian response may be a result of trying to be eminently fair with respect to the concept: freedom of expression. That may have been exacerbated by a lack of clarity about the meaning of this concept. We know that there are limits such as falsely yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre but what other limits are there? Can this be stated as widely applicable principles? We need to be able to quickly determine whether something is protected speech or not. The chaos that autocrats seek to invoke is assisted by our rather fuzzy understanding of this critically important concept.

I like the way Dr. Kayyem thinks. Should the MAGA truckers show up, bring the hammer down early and hard. Deflate the tires, impound the trucks, pull the CDL licenses, charge them with everything from jaywalking to illegal parking to every single violation that can be found on the vehicle.

"Going after the leadership with all the cases [opened by the House committee to investigate Jan. 6] and deplatforming him [Trump] have had an effect."

This is good news. Real progress in tangible increments.
