We do believe that the different disinformation machines have gotten larger and more powerful since 2021. People, cherry pick items from the Trump years and discard everything else. It appears that Iran, as well as Russia, have gotten into the acts. Horrified by Trump’s disregard for our Laws, our desire for Unity and his propensity for Violence, we will vote for Biden. However, I would like more current knowledge to counter peoples’ ideas that Biden is a bad President. We come more from the political middle and feel that Biden has been a pretty good president in our chaotic times.
Puck News is a cool new source of news. They hit it out of the park this week in articles revealing the vile untrustworthiness of the NBC executives, and in particular the. Head of NBC News division lies and strange —meaning NBC execs dug in deep on denials, lies, projection, and a round of pass the buck for the stinking Ronna hire.
I always appreciate reading your letters, Ruth, and can often join the calls. I particularly appreciate the re-posting of this piece and, in particular, the “sandwich” advice. I am, pun intended, always hungry for wise advice.
Diane, The Framing conversations and techniques you can learn by looking up George Lakoff on YouTube. I'm a firm believer in not feeding the trolls. If we pause for a moment before responding to an idiotic social media comment, it's usually easy to see who is begging for engagement. The pure provocation where facts are meaningless. Those are the comments I tend to ignore.

Thinking about the idea of banning Trump and his ilk from social media, it strikes me that such a ban is the equivalent of banning yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. Trump thinks that everything that limits him violates his first amendment rights - he thinks that there are no limits on what he can say. In my opinion, he has tried to make the first amendment something that defends anything he does, just like he should forever have total immunity from prosecution for crimes. Most of us don't think we have a right to do whatever we want, no matter what. And that is good, because we don't. And Trump shouldn't, either.
I like the idea of focusing on the motives of the disinformation spreaders instead of amplifying the false and misleading claims. We want people to understand why these lies are being spread and to focus on accurate and true information and why the truth is important.
This is one of your very best posts! It’s fundamental to fighting propaganda! We can never thank you enough!
