Welcome back to Lucid, and hello to all new subscribers! This week's essay will publish tomorrow due to a change of topic. The Democratic victories in Ohio and Virginia speak to the popular rejection of GOP extremism and to a popular will to protect reproductive rights. These victories will spur far-right Christian nationalists and other kinds of extremists to double down on their use of threat and corruption to see their agendas prevail. But we can defeat them!
Thank you for everything you're doing with Lucid. When I stumbled onto your Substack and attended your Zoom meetings I was immediately impressed with your ability to write, and communicate, your research. I also enjoy your calm, measured approach (I'm very tired of ranting and raging in most situations), the fact that you do not stray much outside of your field of expertise (humility is important) and that you respect your subscribers.
Very nice photo. I miss fall colors. They were so wonderful in East Tennessee. Each season is different everywhere. Still, I miss snow and fall colors. NM is nice in fall.
Keep shining the light on politics
Ruth: Thank you for all you are doing! I am thrilled with the growth/ success of Lucid! The international service and comradeship is necessary! The photo is relaxingly noroushing!
Safe travels to Sarasota!! I am a Florida resident and feel rather isolated at times amongst the Confederate flags and Trump 2024 signs. I am happy you are conducting a session with our Gulf coast residents.
My sense is that nationwide, yesterday's voting results gave many a cause for celebration. However, we can't take our eyes off the ball. Collective resistance against authoritarianism is a daily activity - no free passes permitted.
Great news about the spread of Lucidity =] and I'm very pleased to hear about your veterans outreach! Thanks you for all the great work =]🌊🏄♂️🌅
I was troubled to read in Wednesday
s 11/8 Washington Post that tonight's NBC GOP Debates are being cosponsored with right-wing Salem Media, Christian-Nationalist media group is a sponsor of Dinesh D'Sousa's "40 Thousand Mules" hosts such as Sebastian Gorda. Jenna Ellis and Charlie Kirk, all ultra right podcasters. Brian Rosenwald is quoted by The Post's Jeremy Barr, "This is a major mistake for NBC...I think it undermines their journalistic credibility."
Tonight I will be curious to see how NBC will handle the debates with Hugh Hewitt of Salem and NBC's Kristen Welker and Lester Holt as moderators. As a historian, what insights do you, Ruth.
All best wishes for you in Sarasota, and thank you for sharing the lovely photograph!
Today’s photo is absolutely beautiful! It brought back so many wonderful memories of growing up in the Catskills and Berkshire mountains as a youth. Thanks Ruth!
