Welcome back to Lucid, and hello to all new subscribers! Here is the video from our March 31 Q&A, which was open to everyone in honor of Lucid’s three-year anniversary. Thank you for all of your great questions. A few of them gave me ideas for future essays. Lucid is about optimizing our collective wisdom as we think together about the most important issues of our age.
If you’ve just joined as a paying subscriber, mark your calendars for our next Q&A, Sunday, April 7, 8-9pmET. Our guest will be Barb McQuade, who was United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan from 2010 to 2017. She is a MSNBC contributor and the author of the bestselling book Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America. Paying subscribers will receive a link to register for the Zoom event that afternoon.
If you can’t attend, there is also a Q&A on Friday, April 12, 1-2pmET. It will be “just us,” with no guest, so there will be more time for your questions.
If you’d like to participate, you can use the coupon below to sign up as a paying subscriber or upgrade to paid. It is good through April 7.
If you are in NYC, come and say hello on April 9 at this Brooklyn Public Library event. “Could It Happen Here? America’s Illiberal History, Fascism, and the Thin Line Between.” I will be in conversation with my NYU colleague Prof. Steven Hahn, who recently published Illiberal America, and we will both be signing books after. Bring your copy of Strongmen or get a copy there!
I wish everyone a great weekend. I’ll see some of you on Sunday, and will be in touch with everyone with a new essay next week.
I leave you with an image from my November trip to Sarasota, FL to speak to veterans on Veteran’s Day. I love the deep colors and the sense of a path forward and a journey to be taken.
Resistance to tyranny is about keeping alive the feeling that it is possible to change things, that there are openings for change to occur and that we are the ones to make it happen. I will be writing much more about this in the coming months.
As always, stay well and stay lucid.
Ruth
The offer for30% off is tempting but all I get when I press it is a notice that the action is unavailable within the app.
Ruth, the photo brings to mind I am grateful to you and the Lucid community as we learn to navigate this narrow path to safety, that history has re-sent us.
