The Power of Hope
It's the International Day of Hope!
I just realized that today is the official UN International Day of Hope, and since I am a proponent of hope and optimism in politics and life I thought I would share this UN webpage, which gives data suggesting that hope can lead to better health outcomes, trauma recovery, longevity and more.
I also offer you my 2022 essay on “Hope: The Secret Weapon of Democracy Protection.” It is always interesting to return to essays written at a different political moment, but the wisdom of Gloria Steinem, Rebecca Solnit, and others is timeless.
And here is an essay on the efficacy of hope-based fundraising by Thomas Coombes and Fiza Ziyad. Coombes’ Substack, hope-based communication, is devoted to hope as a political and messaging strategy.
I wish everyone a good weekend. Stay well and stay Lucid.
Ruth

Thank you for this post. When hopelessness is a form of oppression fabricated and promoted by those in power, choosing hope is a radical act of resistance and rebellion
