Welcome back to Lucid! Here is the link to register for today’s Q&A, April 15, 1-2pmET. Registration is free and your information will not be used for any other purpose. Ask a question or just listen in.
I’m pleased to announce that starting today we’ll have special guests once a month for part of the hour. Sometimes they will be people I have recently interviewed. Today we have Jared Yates Sexton who will join us for the first part of the hour.
Jared and I had an important conversation, which I published on April 13, about the turn to authoritarianism globally and how illiberal politicians seem to be able to answer public fears and anxieties better than democracies. If you read Lucid you know those authoritarian answers are in reality highly destructive for humanity.
For the rest of the hour, we’ll talk about newest developments in the war on Ukraine; the French elections; the GOP crusades against abortion rights; and anything else on your mind. All are welcome. I’ll see you soon.
I always include a photo on Fridays. This one, taken by me in New York’s Hudson Valley, may seem ordinary. Yet, as a transplanted Californian who previously lived year-round with bougainvillea, birds of paradise, and many other flowers and plants, I find each appearance of greenery, however humble, something to celebrate. I love the fresh color and texture of these budding leaves. I hope they give you a moment of cheer.
Emily Dickinson came to mind ….
A Light exists in Spring
Not present in the year
At any other period
when March is scarcely here
A Color stand abroad
On Solitary Field
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels!!
Looking forward to hearing Jared Yates Sexton. I've been following him on Twitter, and I always find his threads so on point and . . . LUCID!
