Log-in for Today's Q&A 1-2pmET/CNN op-ed on anti-vaccine parent militants
And a picture of civil resistance in Italy
Hello to everyone! Here’s the log-in info for our regular Friday Q&A at 1-2pmET. We’ll talk about the week’s news, how schools figure into the right’s political-cultural project, disturbing developments in Italy, and anything else you’d like to discuss. I’m looking forward to seeing you.
Here’s my latest CNN op-ed, on how the anti-vaccine parent movement in schools is a smokescreen for far larger right-wing political agendas: https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/14/opinions/parental-control-smoke-screen-right-wing-activists-ben-ghiat/index.html
Below is a picture of a 2002 demonstration by the girotondi civil resistance movement. It goes with the theme of this week’s essay: play as regenerating us for political activism. The movement took its name from “ring around the rosy” games and its actions involved holding hands and encircling buildings that represented endangered institutions. Here they are in Rome in front of the Ministry of Justice, which Silvio Berlusconi was using as his private tool.
