What can we do to reformulate 'Patriotism' to better reflect our diverse multicultural multiracial society and protect against a minority of white Christian nationalists from imposing minority rule on the majority in this country? I have one idea and that is to suggest that if one minority in the country is persecuted and deprived of their democratic right to vote then we're all persecuted and we all stand to lose our rights and we're all made less democratic. Its based on the idea in this poem below.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. By German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller
