Iran protests, Trump the cult leader, Italy on the verge of putting a neo-Fascist in power
A new Lucid blog drawn from my Q&A introductory comments
Welcome back to Lucid! I'm pleased to announce a new Lucid feature. Many people cannot attend the Friday Q&As, so as of today I will send my introductory comments to all paying subscribers. They are blog-style posts rather than the more formal weekly essays, so they capture some of the conversational tone.
If you haven't attended the Q&As (they also happen once a month on Sunday evenings 8-9pmET for paying subscribers, and the next one is October 9) the introductory comments are the first third of the hour-long meeting, with the rest devoted to questions from members of the Lucid community. Sometimes we have special guests to answer your questions.
If you know someone who might enjoy Lucid and these gatherings, you can share the newsletter with them here:
September 23 Live Q&A
Lucid was founded on the premise that we are living through a fateful time in history, when the struggle of autocracy vs. freedom is coming to a head. 2019 was a record year for protests globally.
Now we see Iranian women erupting in protest in over 80 cities over draconian hijab laws. The death of 22 year old Mahsa Amini in police custody after she was arrested for "unsuitable attire" by the morality police has galvanized women to come out into the streets, burning their hijabs and cutting their hair in public, as crowds chant "Death to the dictator." More than 40 women have been killed so far, and many journalists and activists have been arrested.
