Big News! I'm Writing a Book on Resistance
Welcome back to Lucid, and hello to all new subscribers. Our next Q&A will take place on Sunday, April 19, 8-9pmET. I will be in Houston this week for conversations on April 16 on democracy and authoritarianism at Rice University and the Progressive Forum, and I’ll be traveling on Friday when our Q&A would have taken place. If you can’t attend on Sunday, you can find the video on lucid.substack.com.
It will be “just us,” so there will be plenty of time for questions! If you’d like to join these weekly sessions, you can sign up as a paying subscriber or upgrade to paid here:

I’ve been waiting to tell you all some great news: I’ll be writing a book on resistance for Viking. It’s called Resisting Autocracy: What History Teaches About Fighting Back. Here is the official Publishers Marketplace announcement.
I wanted the Lucid community to know before I start posting the news on social media. I’ll get into the details at Sunday’s Q&A, but know that the book will come out of and reflect the community we have built. The questions you ask me and the wisdom you offer in your comments and messages will guide me as I research and write, as will your faith in me.
The book will have plenty of present-day content, locating us among those who struggle for freedom around the world today, but also seeks to anchor us in the history of resistance.
I thank my agent, Sarah Burnes, for believing in this book from the start. I’m looking forward to working with editor Ibrahim Ahmad and the whole Viking team.
I’ll be back tomorrow with an essay, but I just had to let you know this news! As always, stay well and stay Lucid.
Ruth
